In motor vehicles, belts are used as a device for retaining persons in the event of accidents. They have the disadvantage that, after the accident, it is very difficult and sometimes impossible to open them. The invention proposes to equip this belt with a holder which has a timer. After a particular time after the accident, this holder opens automatically. In the present case, this takes place by means of a flowable substance which, after the collision, can flow out of its position to another location as a result of the pulling force. The flow speed and therefore the opening time of the belt can be determined by means of the outflow orifice and the force acting on the flowable substance.
