Composite support system

A composite support system of non-yielding anchors, wire-mesh sections and pressure plates is known. In underground mining operations, this composite support system has proved successful where no convergence or only slight convergence occurs and the rock is less friable. According to the invention, a composite support system for underground operating points at considerable risk of convergence comprises yielding anchors 4 functionally merged with wire-mesh sections 5 and channel-section segments 6 extending in the peripheral direction of the roadway 1. The section segments 6 overlap one another at the ends. In the event of convergence they can thereby follow the reduction in size of the roadway 1. Nevertheless, they firmly hold the layers of surrounding rock together. <IMAGE>
