Glider with a removable auxiliary engine

A glider which was not originally designed as a motor-glider can be converted into a motor-glider by fitting an auxiliary engine according to the invention and connecting it to permanently installed control elements. The engine support and propeller of the installation have a variable geometry, and are moved into a low-drag not-in-use position for gliding. No modifications are required to the primary structure of the existing glider. Disturbing moments when the engine is running can be reduced by directing the propeller flow obliquely onto the control surfaces. The necessary energy stores, such as a tank and battery, are housed in the installation which can be fitted. After removal of the auxiliary engine, a pure glider is obtained again.
