The invention relates to an absorber rod drive for nuclear reactors, in particular for boiling-water reactors, in which a mechanical drive is combined in such a way with a hydraulic drive operating separately therefrom that the two drives are arranged concentrically in one overall length, and in which the drive torque of a motor is transmitted to a threaded spindle which moves a freely bearing hollow piston vertically via a non-rotatable nut, the same means being used for the hydraulics which are used in the reactor as cooling and/or moderating means, and there being nozzle-like connections, annular gaps and/or bores for the purpose of pressure equalisation between the hydraulic system and the reactor pressure vessel. With the exception of the sealing housing (22) and the control drive (23), all the components of the absorber rod drive are arranged in a housing tube (11) which absorbs the differential pressure, the differential pressure being formed from the operating pressure of the drive and the internal reactor pressure, and the housing tube (11) simultaneously being constructed as a guide tube for the sliding members, rollers (47) or balls of the moving parts of the drive and being connected to the reactor pressure vessel (4) via a drive housing nozzle (33).
