PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as an intermediate of antiphlogistic and analgesic agent, under low pressure, by reacting alpha-(6-methoxy-2- naphthyl)ethyl alcohol with Co and an alcohol or phenol using ketone or ether as a solvent. CONSTITUTION:An alpha-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)propionic acid ester is prepared by reacting alpha-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethyl alcohol with carbon monoxide and an alcohol (e.g. methanol, cyclohexanol, ethylene glycol, etc.) or a phenol (e.g. phenol, cresol, etc.) in the presence of palladium catalyst and an acidic compound (e.g. hydrogen chloride). The above reaction is carried out in a solvent selected from a ketone such as acetophenone, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, etc. or an ether such as dioxane, tetrahydrofuran, diisopropyl ether, etc. |
