A pressure relief valve for a recombination electric battery cell comprises a magnetic rubber disc (22) which is normally urged against a magnetic rubber washer (16) by the magnetic force between them. The valve member (22) can be raised if the pressure within the cell at (12) builds up above a precisely determined relief pressure.
