PURPOSE:To constitute equivalently a single sensor having many bit numbers by connecting plural photodetector array chips in a line at an interval of single of double pitch of the photodetector arrangement. CONSTITUTION:A distance (d) of a connecting section 10 between two photodetector array chips 11, 12 is set to a single or double pitch of the arrangement pitch (a) of the photodetectors used in the chips 11, 12. In setting the distance (d) as a double pitch and the photodetector at the end of the chip 11 as m-th bit, two virtual photodetectors consisting of a space for the (m+1)th and the (m+2)th bits and the photodetector of the top of the chip 12 forms the (m+3)th bit. Then, an output of the (m+1)th bit at a connection 10 is made equal to the output of the m-th bit and the output of the (m+2)th bit is made equal to the output of the (m+3)th bit, thereby compensating the data equivalent to two-bit portion of the connection 10. |
