PURPOSE:To keep constant the distance between the electrode holding position and the guide below for improving the working efficiency, by providing a mechanism which allows the electrode to freely move up and down and clamps the same for compensating a consumed amount of the electrode by discharge processing. CONSTITUTION:A collet chuck 14 is released by a motor 18 to allow a pipe shaped electrode 10 to become movable up and down. Then the electrode 10 is lowered by a motor 17. When contacting of the electrode 10 with a work 16 is detected by a detector (not shown), the lowering of the electrode 10 is stopped and the electrode 10 is clamped by fastening of the chuck 14. If the main shaft as a whole is raised to a suitable height, the power supply is turned on, and the main shaft is lowered to a sufficient depth to pass through the work 16, then the processing is completed. |
