The quantity of vitamin B<12> dissolved in a liquid is determined by mixing a sample of the liquid with vitamin B<12>-binding proteins from poultry serum at a pH of 12.8 - 13.2 and analysing a component of the mixture. A preferred procedure which is especially applicable to the analysis of human serum, involves a method of competitive binding, where one uses a labelled vitamin B<12> and a cyanide ion-containing buffer. An analytical kit for carrying out such a determination comprises vitamin B<12>- binding proteins from poultry serum, one or several standard serums, as well as Co<57>-labelled vitamine B<12>, which components are prepacked individually. <IMAGE> |
