PURPOSE:To obtain a recording body having superior sliding characteristics to a magnetic head and superior wear resistance by forming a magnetic layer contg. fine ferromagnetic metallic powder and molybdenum disulfide on a nonmagnetic support. CONSTITUTION:Molybdenum disulfide is incorporated into a magnetic layer contg. fine ferromagnetic metallic powder. The surface roughness of the magnetic layer is <=0.010mum, preferably <=0.0085mum, and the particle size of the magnetic powder is >=30m<2>/g, preferably >=40m<2>/g when expressed in terms of the specific surface area measured by the B.E.T. method. The especially preferred particle size of the molybdenum disulfide is 0.2-2mum, and the compound is added by 0.3-10wt% of the amount of the metallic powder. The metallic powder is powder of iron, an Fe-Co alloy or an Fe-Co-Ni alloy, and a small amount of a nonmagnetic or nonmetallic element may be added to improve the characteristics.
