PURPOSE:To prevent the formation of anaerobic zone caused by the short circuit of air stream, and to enable uniform fermentation, by reversing the direction of air flow in the fermentation tank alternately with regular time intervals. CONSTITUTION:In the fermentation tank 1 for converting organic sludge 2 to a compost, the aeration of the tank is carried out by alternating the process for sending air from the bottom tube 3 of the tank 1 and discharging from the upper tube 4, and the process for sending air from the upper tube 4 and discharging from the bottom tube 3, at regular intervals. As an alternative method, an aeration tube 3 and an exhaustion tube 3' are placed at the bottom of the tank, and another aeration tube 4' and exhaustion tube 4 at the upper part of the tank, and reversing the direction of air flow using the tube pairs.
