<p>Cpds. (I) and salts thereof: where R = phenyl opt. substd. by halogen, OH, 1-4C alkyl, NO2, NH2, 1-4 alkanoyl, CF3, 1-4C alkoxy or alkylthio. Antibacterial agents chemically and metabolically more stable than the 3-acetoxymethyl analogues. Hydrogenation of a 50% aq. soln. of (II; R' = H) neutralised with 1:1 Na2HPO4 -Et3N at room-temp. and 70 kg./cm2. pressure using 5% Pd/BaSO4 catalyst, filtration, acidification, and neutralisation with NH4OH precipitated (III; R' = H). Acylation with methyl 3-(D-alpha-carboxybenzylamino) crotonate Na salt by the mixed anhydride route gave I(R = C6H5).</p> |
