Self supporting floor structure for car

Each side of the vehicle floor structure has a lateral hollow member formed by the floor pan and the side wall. The front section of the hollow member secures the upright for the windscreen frame and is extended to take the rear end of a forked structure which forms part of the front engine mounting. The forked structures each support a profiled bulkhead wall and are linked to the transmission tunnel moulding. The outer wings are made of fibreglass or plastics so that in a collision the front wheels are deflected outwards through the wings without any danger to the passenger compartment.
