This display unit for an object to be exhibited and illuminated comprises a hollow base 1, comprising an opaque flat upper face 2 on which the object 5 may be placed towards the rear, whilst, towards the front, the said face is provided with a passage 14 for the light, the hollow base containing a light source 6 which sends its rays 9 onto a mirror 10 located at the level of the said passage 14 so as to reflect the light rays 12 on the object 5, an opaque cover 15 being placed over the said passage so as to conceal the said passage from an observer placed in front of the display unit while still allowing the reflected rays 12 to pass towards the object 5. <IMAGE>
