In a direct-current motor drive for a reversing mill which uses the focussing of the weakening of the field flow above the base velocity, the field flow is forced upwards when an overload condition is detected and the velocity characteristic is allowed to drop, with the result that the moment (couple, torque) is increased in order to adapt to the overload without exceeding the motor's nominal values (rating).
