The invention concerns a device for splitting wooden logs. It is constituted by a stand 1 on which is mounted the sliding part 2, supporting the wedge 3, immobilised by a pin 4, by the intermediary of orifices 1a, 1b or 1c. The slider 5, provided with its support part 6, is pulled backwards by the spring 7. The jack 9 is fixed to the device by the intermediary of a fixing bracket 8. The thrust of the jack 9, transmitted by the rod to the slider 5, is applied to one of the ends of the log by the intermediary of the support part 6, while the other end is held by the wedge 3 which penetrates into the log until the latter is split apart in the direction of its length. <IMAGE>
