1316041 A densitometer A B INSTRUMENTA 10 May 1971 [12 May 1970] 14016/71 Heading G1A In a densitometer, for measuring the mineral content in the bores in an arm 17 held by a clamp 4, a radio-active source 2 emitting a thin beam and a scintillation detector 3 are moved relative to the clamp 4 by a motor 5 and equalisation of the signal due to the flesh etc. surrounding the bores is provided by fitting the arm 17 within a hollow cuff 20 filled with a liquid having essentially the same radiation resistance as the flesh. The clamp can comprise two plane parallel surfaces 23 and the hand is intended to grip a handle 27 and to be fastened by belts 19 within a cradle 18. The radiation source may be americium 241 or iodine - 125. The output of the detector is fed to an analysing unit and thence, to an analogous rate meter having a recorder (9), Fig. 1 (not shown), which directly writes out the result as a curve. Alternatively the analysing unit output is fed to a digital rate meter having a recorder which writes out the result in numerical form. A 4 per cent solution of NaCl is exemplified as a filler liquid with iodine 125.
|
