PURPOSE:To prevent external light from being made incident to an image carrier unnecessarily and to prevent a photoconductor from deteriorating by providing a light shielding means to a display image observation port. CONSTITUTION:The display image observation port 32 for viewing an image on a photosensitive body belt 34 which utilizes a photoconductor as an image carrier is provided with an ECD cell 33 as the light shielding means. The cell 33 is made of an EC material such as inorganic tungsten oxide and electricity is fed to a specific conductive film to obtain coloring or decoloring reaction. When the image is observed, a main switch 43 is turned on to feed the electricity from a power source 46 in the decoloring direction of the ECD cell 3, forming the image when the image is not displayed, the switch 43 is turned off for coloring. Thus, unnecessary external light is cut off and the photoconductor of the belt 34 is prevented from deteriorating. |
