A laminating machine comprises a system whereby extensible film is drawn over a pair of 'S' wrap rolls and laminated to paper between a main and compression roll. Adhesive being supplied at point of lamination. Pre-printed marks on the film are detected and their frequency computed against reference electronic pulses. Stretching or relaxation of the film to achieve correct registry is obtained by controlling the speed of the 'S' wrap rolls, either relative to the main drive or to each other. Lateral edge detection and adjustment is also provided. Lamination of a plastic film material to paper enhances display packages, giving protection, high strength and abrasion resistance. Correct tension and registry of the repeat pattern is achieved by detection and control of spacing of pre-printed marks.
