PURPOSE:To improve sealing ability during thermal expansion of a honeycomb for purging exhaust gas, by a method wherein a thermal expansive heat resisting elastic seal ring is integrally secured to the interior of the rear end of an annular cusion body formed in an L-shape in cross section through compression of a tubular metallic wire net obtained by plain-knitting a heat resisting metallic fine wire. CONSTITUTION:A tubular metallic wire net 1 obtained by plain-knitting a stainless wire 2 with diameter of about 0.15mm. in form of a round braid is double- reeled from its one end, and a thermal expansion seal ring 3, consisting of a ceramic fiber sheet and the like, engages with the outer surface of a double- reeled annular part 2a before the double-reeling of the above metallic wire net 1 is completed. An end part 2b of the tubular metallic wire net 1 is laid thereon, a retainer body 4, in which a compressed mesh part 4a in an L-shape in cross section is formed integrally with a seal part 4b being the rear end thereof, is laid on the peripheries of both ends of a honeycomb 5 for purging exhaust gas, and the resulting work is mounted inside a casing 6. |
