Process for the preparation of binders for stoving finishes

The reaction of dicarboxylic anhydrides with short- and long-chain epoxides in the presence of defined amounts of alkanediols and in the presence of a catalyst gives polyesters which, on combination with amino resins, give excellent binders for stoving finishes (stoving or baking enamels or lacquers) which are particularly suitable for coil coatings.
