The folding press for sheet metal (10) comprises a folding ram (3) and a die (1) held on the press bed (2) via a support assembly. This assembly comprises two rows of spaced springs (12) which support the die carrier (4) and are symmetrically arranged relative to the central plane of this carrier and to the fold line in an intermediate plate (11) secured to the bed. - A row of spaced pins (16), which are freely axially movable in corresponding bores in the plate and the bed, absorb the ram pressure acting on the carrier and transfer this to a resilient support assembly (17-19). The pressure may be transferred to the pins via resilient polymer plates (13,14) secured in a bottom recess in the carrier (4) and from the pins, via a pressure plate (17), to a row of plungers (18) in hydraulic cylinders (19) connected to a pressure accumulator.
