The tunnel-construction method is suitable for tunnels running only slightly below the surface of the earth and having at least two tunnel tubes running one above the other. First of all two rows of reinforced-concrete hollow piles (P) are placed in predrilled holes. The special feature of these hollow piles is that they are provided with rows of recesses: one row of recesses (A2) lying one above the other and directed transversely to the tunnel longitudinal axis and two rows of openings (A1) in the longitudinal direction of the tunnel longitudinal axis. The openings (A1) serve during construction to pump in concrete for constructing longitudinal beams (R1, R2, F) and to again pump in concrete for intermediate walls (Z, Z2) between the piles (P) after formwork is attached. During construction, the recesses (A2) running transversely to the tunnel longitudinal axis serve to pump in concrete for the intermediate roofs (D2, D3). Only the top tunnel roof (D1) and its beams (R1) are constructed by open-cut working, the rest of the excavation and construction is carried out by the mining method. During the final lining, the recesses (A2) serve to attach a lighting and ventilation system. The hollow piles with their recesses (A2) permit effective cross ventilation of the tunnel tubes. <IMAGE>
