PURPOSE:To form automatically a dictionary suitable for a user from a standard dictionary and to increase the rate of character recognition by inputting hand- written characters of a user to a recognizing device and allowing the recognizing device itself to learn the penmanship of the user. CONSTITUTION:A sheet is scanned by the scanner 1 of a character recognizing device and the character pattern on the sheet is read. The characteristic of the character pattern read by the scanner 1 is extracted by a characteristic extracting section 2, and the extracted characteristic is added to a processing section 3. A quick acting dictionary memory 4 that is accessed by external memories 5, 6 is connected to the processing section 3 and a dictionary used by the processing section 3 is loaded in the memory 4. A standard dictionary for hand-written characters and a dictionary for printing are stored in the memory 5, and another memory 6 is used for forming and storing of a dictionary for a user. A dictionary formed by the memory 6 is loaded in the memory 4, and a dictionary suitable for the user is prepared by the recognizing device itself and loaded in the processing section 3 to increase the rate of character recognition. |
