Filler-containing acrylic fibres made from acrylonitrile polymers containing at least 50% by weight of acrylonitrile, no halogen and, as filler, a water-insoluble metal oxide, metal hydroxide, metal carbonate, metal silicate or metal sulphate having a particle size of from 1 to 1000 nm, in an amount of from 15 to 50% by weight, based on the total solids content, are suitable as reinforcing fibres and as a component of abradants, friction materials and building materials.
