Seal for vacuum and pressure joints

To avoid damage to the sealing faces and the consequent malfunctions, each of the two identical flanges 4, 5 in this seal is provided with an annular groove 1, 2, the cross-section of which is a segment of a circle. The sealing element has a circular cross-section. By virtue of this shape, the sealing element is pressed into the annular grooves of the flanges with increasing contact pressure during assembly, the sealing element assuming the shape of the annular grooves and sealing off the joint.
