PURPOSE:To comfirm the finish state of polishing of a plug end surface without detaching a plug from a polishing jig in the middle of the polishing by incorporating a microscope in a polishing device. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber coupling plug 2 is fitted to a plug attachment arm 9 and its end surface is pressed against an abrasive disk 7 to be polished. The arm 9 is rotated by an angle theta to coincide the plug end surface with the optical path 17 of the microscope 10. The vertical position of the arm 9 is set to put the microscope 10 in focus and observations are taken at an observation position 15. The rotation angle theta of the arm 9 and vertical position for focusing are set by a stopper 18. When a flaw, etc., on the plug end surface are found by the observations, the arm 9 is rotated again and the plug end surface is pressed against the disk to be polished. Thus, the polishing and the inspection of the polishing state are carried out easily only by rotating the arm, so the efficiency of the polishing operation is high advantageously. |
