An eave trough protector adapted to be secured to a surface of a building, preferably a vertical surface of the building adjacent the edge of the roof, to support a. ladder against lateral slippage and to protect the eave trough from damage when persons climb the ladder to gain access to the roof of the building. The protector includes a pair of supports each having upper and lower arms which rest against the vertical surface of the building. The protector further includes a spacer bar and the supports are secured to opposite ends of the spacer bar. The spacer bar is bolted to the eave trough and the distance between the supports corresponds to the width, of a ladder so that when a ladder rests on the spacer bar, the ladder is prevented from sideways or lateral movement by the supports. The protector prevents the ladder from damaging either the roof or the eave trough and operates on a self-energizing principle in that as a person ascends an inclined ladder, the increased weight on the ladder and more specifically the horizontal component of the weight causes the protector to be urged more tightly against the vertical surface to reduce any possibility of slippage of the protector.
|
