PURPOSE:To control the overflow of molten glass at the undersurface of an orifice plate, by carrying out the reduction of the molten glass temperature, suspension of the supply of bulk gas and supply of a cooling gas to the undersurface of the orifice plate, etc. in responce to a detection of breakage of the fiber. CONSTITUTION:A molten glass 14 at an adjusted temperature is passed through an orifice plate 20 of a bushing assembly 10 to form glass fibers (14a), which are then wound by a winder 26. A gas stream is further supplied from a bulk gas nozzle 28 to the undersurface of the orifice plate 20 to operate a spinning apparatus. When the fiber breakage of the fibers (14a) is sensed by a sensor 70, the temperature of the glass 14 is reduced after moving the bulk gas nozzle 28 and the supply of the bulk gas is stopped. A cooling gas is then supplied from the respective nozzles 30 directed to a given angle to the orifice plate 20 to carry out the operation procedures, e.g. stopping the fiber drawing of the winder 26, etc. Thus, the solidification of the molten glass 14 overflowed to the undersurface of the orifice plate 20 on the fiber breakage is avoided, and cleaning can be carried out.
