The IC engine has two longitudinal lines of cylinders, each with at least three valves, altogether forming two inlet and two exhaust valve rows parallel to the crankshaft axis. The valve control includes a camshaft (25,26) above each line of cylinders and parallel to it. Each camshaft directly actuates the valves (8 or 14) in the outer row serving the cylinders in the line underneath it, and the valves (16 or 6) in the inner row serving the cylinders in the other line. The valve axes intersect, at least approximately, that of the camshaft actuating them. Inlet and outlet valve rows may alternate, so each camshaft actuates only one valve type.
