Ball bearing axial direction securing mechanism

The screw mechanism is particularly for securing the race (5) of a ball- or roller- bearing in the axial direction. A threaded ring (6) engages in a tapped bore in a bearing housing (1,2) and acts against the race. The ring is locked by spring lugs (9) on a coaxial cylindrical face (8) engaging with a locking face (10) in the housing. These allow the ring to turn in one direction, but prevent it doing so in the other. Thay can be inclined away from the direction in which the ring turns freely, notches (12) being formed in the ring surface adjacent to them.
