An image-forming device has a control unit which controls an image field on a photosensitive drum in accordance with information on the format of an original as detected by means of an original format detector, and in accordance with a magnification/demagnification scale determined by a selected mode of operation for magnification/demagnification. An unused field outside the desired image field is discharged.
