Device for removing the plug from an air intake duct opening into the combustion chamber of ram jet engines following the burning up of a solid starting charge which is arranged in the joint combustion chamber for starting and cruising mode. This device comprises at the very least a differential pressure cylinder which is fixed against a stop in the orifice region of the air intake duct in a direction counter to the inflowing ram air and is charged with combustion gases towards the end of the starting phase by the combustion chamber pressure, and furthermore comprises a differential pressure piston which is arranged immediately in front of the orifice plug and has a reduced effective cross-section relative to the full cross-section of the orifice plug.
