A mine support prop which consists of an elongate timber load supporting member 10 which carries a plurality of spaced grooves (12) which extend over a portion of its length adjacent one of its ends, with the grooves 12 (14, 16 and 18 Figs. 8-10) preferably being angled relatively to the prop axis.
