PURPOSE:To provide possibility of lessening the width of a piston ring as well as enlarging its thickness, by constructing so that bucklings are generated always in the same direction and thereby eliminating ill influence of eventual buckling. CONSTITUTION:The inside of the low-pressure side face of a piston ring 1 is cut aslant as shown by ''5'' so that bucklings are generated always in the same direction regularly, when the ring 1 is compressed. Inserted in a ceiling, it is compressed and moved toward the center as shown by arrow 6, and simultaneously a buckling is generated in the direction as shown by Arrow 7 to cause deformation as shown by the solid line 12. At this time, the inner portion 13 on high pressure side and the outer portion 14 on low pressure side of this ring are put in close contact with the wall on high pressure side and the one on low pressure side, respectively, of the ring groove, so that further deformation can be prevented. |
