Method and apparatus in a plant including at least two machines (9-11) for inserting supplements in newspapers, where a stream (5) of newspapers coming from a newspaper printing press (4) is divided into branch streams (6-8) through the inserting machines, for coordinating the branch streams to a single stream (19) of newspapers having the same speed as the stream (5) of newspapers from the press (4). The apparatus comprises a reception conveyor (12) receiving individual newspapers (1-3) from the respective branch streams (6-8), in which the newspapers overlap each other. Newspapers from each stream are deposited at predetermined positions in the longitudinal and transverse direction of the conveyor (12), such as to form batches of newspapers where each batch (17) of newspapers (1-3) is discharged from the conveyor (12) onto a transverse collecting conveyor (18) such that consecutive batches (17) are deposited on the preceding ones with the same spacing, the conveyor (18) having a speed synchronized with that of the reception conveyor (12) for conveying the newspapers (1-3) sideways in a uniform overlapping stream (19) at a speed substantially corresponding to that of the stream (5) coming from the press (4). |
