For industrial purposes, textile fabrics with specific properties, such as, for example, non-flammability or adsorptiveness, are needed which are distinguished at the same time by high flexibility and strength and, when used for protective clothing, by good wear properties. This is achieved according to the invention by yarns which are encased by active compounds, such as adsorbents, flame-proofing agents, ion exchangers, decontaminants for chemical warfare agents, catalysts or immobilised enzymes. The active compounds are stuck to the surface of the yarn or embedded in a binder. The encasing can additionally be covered by spinning or can be flocked.
