The machine is used in foundries in which castings are produced by means of boxless horizontally split sand moulds. It is the aim of the invention to provide a machine for the production of boxless horizontally split sand moulds which operates in a manner which demands little outlay on machinery and control and has a high technological degree of freedom without impairing the rate of production. It is the object of the invention to provide a machine which produces bottom and top halves of foundry moulds in alternation and, after the insertion of cores, joins the halves of the mould together to give a complete mould. According to the invention, this is achieved by the fact that the machine is equipped with a cyclically controlled first transport device and a preferably combined station for the introduction and compaction of the moulding material, that a combined lifting, closing and knock-out station is provided, that a lowering device interacting with a transporter is arranged immediately next to the combined lifting, closing and knock-out station and a second transport device for transporting the mould frames containing the bottom halves of the moulds is provided.
