PURPOSE:To allow a user to easily know a signal recorded on a track in the middle of reproduction by providing a deciding means for deciding the type of recording signal during reproduction and a display means for displaying the type of the recording signal. CONSTITUTION:When a magnetic head 2 is moved up to the position of the track to be reproduced and a frequency signal is detected, said signal is decided to be a video signal or not. That is decided according as a synchronizing signal 38 taken by a filter 12 is present or not. When the signal 38 is inputted to a microcomputer control circuit 1, it causes a video LED 31 to light up. If said signal is decided not to be a video signal, it is further decided to be an audio signal or not. That is decided by knowing that the circuit 1 causes an audio display LED 30 to light up when a start ID and end ID, both of which are decided by an ID deciding circuit 19, are inputted to the circuit 1. If a data signal is attained, a data display LED 29 is displayed. Instead of the LEDs 29-31, a display circuit 28 can display on a display screen.
