Water-based curable epoxy resin compositions comprising (A) a diglycidyl ether of a bisphenol A type resin and (B) a reactive polyamidopolyamine can avoid problems resulting from the use of solvents and emulsifiers if the diglycidyl ether (A) has been partially reacted (preferably to an extent from 5 to 50%) with a polyoxyalkylene polyamine having a molecular weight from 900 to 5000.
<??>Preferred polyoxyalkylene polyamines have the formulae:
H2N[CH(CH3)CH2O]y(CH2CH2O)z[CH2CH(CH3)O]y-1CH2CH(CH3)NH2,
wherein y is 1-5, and z is 1-50, or
CH3O(CH2CH2O)r[CH2CH(CH3)O]sCH2CH(CH3)NH2
wherein r is 16-20 and s is 1-5.
