PURPOSE:To prepare an aqueous dispersion having excellent sizing effect and high stability, and suitable for a paper-sizing agent, with simple operation, by carrying out the phase inversion of an emulsion using a molten composition obtained by adding a specific organic acid to a reinforced rosin. CONSTITUTION:A reinforced rosin is mixed with a 10-14C saturated fatty acid or a compound of formula (R is 8-10C straight- or branched-chain alkyl; R' is H or methyl; the sum of the carbon numbers of R and R' is 9-11) or their mixture. The composition is melted and mixed with water containing a dispersing agent to obtain a W/O-type emulsion containing said molten composition as continuous phase and water as dispersed phase. Water is added to the W/O-type emulsion and stirred to effect the phase inversion and obtain an O/W-type emulsion containing water as the continuous phase and the molten composition as the dispersed phase. The amount of the organic acid is 5-20wt% based on 80-95wt% of the reinforced rosin. |
