PURPOSE:The titled conjugate fibers, produced by covering the surfaces of filament materials of a shape memory alloy as a core part with a (semi)synthetic high polymer to form a sheath part, and cutting the resultant filament materials of the shape memory alloy into fiber materials, and capable of giving sheetlike materials having improved bulkiness, shape retaining property and feeling. CONSTITUTION:The surfaces of filament materials of a shape memory alloy, e.g. Ti-Ni, Cu-Ni-Al, Cu-Zn-Al or Cu-Zn-Si, etc. having preferably 3-100mu diameter as a core part are covered with a synthetic high polymer, e.g. polyamide, polypropylene (PP), polyester, polyethylene (PE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), etc. or a semisynthetic high polymer, e.g. rayon or cellulose acetate, as a sheath part, and the resultant conjugate fibers are cut to a given length or heated at the transformation temp. of martensite or above in a previously deformed zigzag state under an external force to memorize the shape. The resultant fibers are then cut to a given length to form staple fibers. The resultant fiber assembly is then subjected to the mechanical bonding and adhesive bonding treatment to afford the aimed sheetlike material. |
