PURPOSE:To obtain a transparent diamond single crystal of high quality free from surface roughness by adding a specified amount of silicon to a metallic solvent when a diamond single crystal is manufactured by making use of temp. difference. CONSTITUTION:When a diamond single crystal is manufactured by a temp. difference method, 0.05-5wt% Si is added to a transition metal such as Cr or Fe or an alloy thereof used as a metallic solvent. By this method a colorless and transparent diamond single crystal of high quality having a smooth surface is obtd. Since the temp. and pressure during the manufacture can be made low, energy and expenses can be saved. |
