PURPOSE:To improve the current efficiency of a zinc-bromine secondary battery by adding bromine to prepare anolyte contained in the container. CONSTITUTION:A unit cell 1 is separated into an anodic chamber 2 and a cathodic chamber 3 by means of a diaphragm 4. An anolyte container 9 and a catholyte container 10, respectively, are connected to the anodic chamber 2 and the cathodic chamber 3. In such a zinc-bromine secondary battery, electrolyte containing zinc bromine is circulated. Either after the assembly or after the complete discharge of the battery, bromine is added to anolyte. The quantity of bromine added is preferred to be more than 0.2mol/l. Owing to such constitution of the battery, the current efficiency is increased thereby improving the energy efficiency of the battery. |
