A method of forming a fabric from a flat feed stock supply comprises cutting the stock longitudinally as it is drawn from the supply into a plurality of elements without detaching the elements from the supply and knitting the elements to form a fabric. Web or sheet material 11 is withdrawn from a feed stock roll 8 by rolls 12 and 13 and feeds through a guide 14 into cutter 15 wherein the feed stock is cut into a plurality of elements 22 by cutting blades 33, 34. Elements 22 are pulled through an alignment comb 16 and spreading comb 17 and over an applicator roll 18 which coats the element with the liquid contained in a tank 19. The elements then pass through rollers 20, 21 and by means of guides 2 to a rotating cylinder knitting machine 1 where the elements are formed into a fabric. The'applicator roll 18 and bath 19 may be replaced by a heating element for the appropriate type of element. Specification 954, 027 is referred. to. |
