The invention comprises N-aminoalkylamides and N-aminoalkylimidazolines obtained from polyalkylene polyamines and di- or tri-carboxylic acids resulting from the addition of an a -unsaturated carboxylic acid (or its ester or anhydride) to an unsaturated fatty acid. The amino amide is formed at 140 DEG -200 DEG C., the imidazolines by raising the temperature to 280 DEG -300 DEG C. when ring closure occurs. The polyamines used include ethylene diamine, diethylene triamine and tetraethylene pentamine; whilst the acids specified are oleic and linoleic as the fatty acid and maleic acid and anhydride, fumaric and crotonic acid and their corresponding hydroxy acids, e.g. malic acid as the a unsaturated compound. Further compounds can be prepared by addition to an olefinic compound instead of an unsaturated fatty acid. Specified compounds are di- and tri-isobutylene, 2-methyl pentene and 2-methyl octaene.ALSO:One component of a two-component resin system is a N amino alkyl amide and/or a N aminoalkylimidazoline, obtained from a polyalkylene polyamine and a di- and/or tri-carboxylic acid resulting from the addition of an a -unsaturated carboxylic acid (or its ester or anhydride) to an olefin and/or an unsaturated fatty acid (see Division C2). Specified resins are (1) an alkaline condensed phenol-formaldehyde, (2) a polyurethane from toluene diisocyanate, trimethylol propane and ethanol and (3) epoxy resins of the glycidyl ether-bisphenol type, an aliphatic glycidyl ether, a glycidyl ether of an acid condensed phenol formaldehyde, and a nitrogen containing epoxy resin.ALSO:Metals and black plate are coated with either epoxy resins, alkaline condensed phenolformaldehyde resins, or polyurethane resins all hardened by N-amino alkyl amides and/or N-amino alkylinidazolines (see Division C2) and the coatings cured by heating. |
