PURPOSE:To prevent a metal flame sprayed layer from being peeled off by a method wherein the lower side wall of a groove which is formed on the external periphery of a taper face piston ring to provide a metallic melting layer therein is made slant downward while the sealing surface of a piston ring base metal and the metal flame sprayed layer is expanded. CONSTITUTION:A taper face type piston ring 14 is cut off at a lower edge 18 of the external periphery 15 to form a flat face F against a taper face T. A circular groove 24 is formed along the external periphery 15 to form a metal flame sprayed layer 30 constituting a part of said periphery 15 by means of flame spraying process. At this time, the upper side wall 26 is made slightly slant upward while the lower side wall 28 is made remarkably slant downward. Through these procedures, the sealing surface of the lower side wall 28 may be prevented from being peeled off by means of expanding the area of the lower side wall 28 to enlarge the contact area of the metal flame sprayed layer 30 with the piston ring base metal 14. |
