The safety nut is for a scissors-type car jack, taking over the function of the spindle nut if this is destroyed or stripped. The spindle nut (1) has a number of recesses in its outer face, pref. trapezium or catch-shaped. Two or more axially-sliding pins (4) protruding from the opposite face of the safety nut (2) engage in the recesses, these pins extending over an elastic intermediate washer (5). The design protects against the jack collapsing with the car raised.
