PURPOSE:To eliminate vertical smear and to suppress the generation of residual image by providing a means subtracting a signal obtained from a solid-state image pickup element and a means expanding the time axis. CONSTITUTION:A signal from signal output lines 111, 112 of an MOS solid-state image pickup element 14 is applied to subtraction circuits 161, 162 through preamplifiers 151, 152 and an output signal of the circuits 161, 162 is applied to switch circuits 171, 172. The circuits 171, 172 are switched in synchronizing with a pulse from a pulse generating circuit 21 and then switched again by a pulse 22 of one horizontal scanning period at switching circuits 181, 182. A signal switched during one horizontal scanning period by the circuits 181, 182 is applied to an adder circuit 20 via line memories 1911, 1912, 1921, 1922. Then, the vertical smear is cancelled at the circuits 161, 162 and the signal is stored in the line memories 191, 192, 1921, 1922, read out at a frequency a half the storing frequency so as to suppress the generation of residual image. |
