A container lid for a container of essentially round or oval cross-section is described. The container lid consists of a cover plate, having a lid edge strip engaging around the container edge, and a continuous hollow rib which is fastened to the underside of the cover plate at a distance from the lid edge strip. The cover plate and the hollow rib firmly connected to it preferably consist of deep-drawn plastic parts which are firmly connected, for example welded or adhesively bonded, to one another.
